Periodontal Gum Disease – My Diagnosis

Since It is very important to brush your teeth after each meal I decided that this topic will be quite relevant to my cook/food blog. My topic is about periodontal gum disease.  But first let me start with my story.

A few years ago on numerous occasions my husband would tell me that my breath was smelling so I would quickly go and brush my teeth and if I had Listerine mouthwash on hand, I will gargle with some.  I notice when I spat out the Listerine, I would see food particles in the sink and would be surprised as I had just brushed my teeth.

In 2020 with the Covid 19 pandemic I found that I was getting a unbearable tooth ache (the second to last molar tooth on the right side of my mouth).  I tried to get an emergency appointment with my dentist but his office was closed due to the pandemic.

I eventually put up a post on Facebook and I got an immediate response from a kind gentlemen who was a dentist I was able to get an appointment soon afterward. To ease the pain I was taking paracetamol more often that I should and I also used up my grandson pain medications!

When the dentist saw my teeth apparently he expected to see something worst.  Anyway he cleaned my teeth, prescribed me some antibiotics and in a casual manner said that I had Periodontal Gum Disease.

I visited another dentist to get second opinion and also the pain began again.  This dentist cleaned my teeth and patiently explained that I had a Periodontal Gum Disease.  He said that my gum was growing away from my teeth leaving a gap.  When I eat, food would settle in that gap and develop bacteria.  This was also the cause of my bad breath!!!!

The longer the food remains in this area bacteria develops and becomes painful.  Brushing my teeth alone does not remove food trapped in this gap.  Gargling with Listerine helps alot – I use the Original Listerine Mouthwash as I find that it is more effective.

This explains why each time I gargled with the Listerine and spit it out, I would see some food particles in my sink.

At that time I had developed abscess.  I had to get injection and the area was cleaned out thoroughly.  My dentist said he will review my teeth every six month if he doesn’t see any improvements, he would be recommending that my tooth be extracted to which I was totally opposed. I celebrated my 60th birthday in 2022 and I have all my teeth (healthy) in tact and would like to keep it that way for as long as I can.

So my friends, I shared my story to say that as foodies, food enthusiasts, it is very important to keep our teeth healthy, brush frequently and get annual dental check ups.

  2. I have learned newer and more effective things via your site. One other thing I’d really like to say is the fact newer laptop os’s tend to allow extra memory for use, but they furthermore demand more storage simply to run. If people’s computer is unable to handle additional memory along with the newest software package requires that storage increase, it is usually the time to shop for a new Personal computer. Thanks
