How To Cook And Eat Peewah (Trinidad And Tobago)

peewah

Hey hey hey folks, in this post I show you how to cook and eat peewah.  You will normally find this fruit in a fresh market and it is a palm fruit aka as Kerekel. The skin of this fruit is orange in color when ripe.

Method
Put about 2 pounds of this fruit – peewah into a bowl.  Wash them thoroughly.  Transfer to a pot, fill the pot with water, enough to cover all the peewah.  Add about 2 tablespoons of salt to the pot with the peewah.  Put the pot on the stove and allow the fruits to cook.  After about 45 minutes the peewah should be nice and tender.

After the peewah is cool, use your finger to peel off the orange skin of the fruit.  Eat the fleshy part.  There will be a black nut inside.  Using your teeth, you can crack the black nut and you full find a hard white edible substance that looks like dry coconut.  You can now eat this hard white substance.
