Recipe For Vegan Fry Bakes

Are you on a vegan diet and enjoy a good fry bake?  Well you can now enjoy your favorite bread that is vegan friendly.  What are bakes?  Bakes are very popular in the Caribbean islands.  There are a few variations to the recipe and called different names.  Bakes is basically bread made without eggs and milk and fried.  Continue reading for this vegan bread recipe.

Ingredients 

2 cups all purpose flour 
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil
1/2 – 3/4 cups lukewarm water
Method 
In a mixing bowl add all the dry ingredients and mix together well.  Add the coconut oil and mix in with the dry ingredients.  Gradually add the lukewarm water and mix in with dry ingredients.  Form into a dough.  Cover with bowl with a damp paper towel and allow the dough to rest for about 10 minutes.

After that time has passed, knead the dough again, it will be smoother after this second kneading of the dough.  Separate into small pieces and fold into balls.  You would get about 6 balls with this recipe.  Flatten each ball into a circle shape.

Put a generous amount of oil into a deep pot.  Allow the oil to hot and lower the fire to medium heat.  Put the pieces of dough into the hot oil and allow each piece of dough to get golden brown on the bottom.  Turn over and allow the other side to get golden brown.  Remove from the oil and place on a plate lined with some paper towel.  Enjoy this vegan bread recipe.
